Jacksonville is located in west central Illinois in Morgan County about 25 miles west of Springfield and just north of Interstate 72 25 miles east of the Illinois River and 5 miles northwest of Lake Jacksonville.
The town is home to Illinois College, Jacksonville School of Practical Nursing and MacMurray College. The latter was originally founded as the Illinois Conference Female Academy.
Jacksonville sponsors several interesting and fun-filled events each year including the "Prairie Heritage Steam Show and Fall Festival Days", the "Car Show and Cruise Nite", "Chautauqua" and the "Potowatomi Trail Pow Wow".
On an historical note, the Gov. Joseph Duncan Mansion, used from 1834 to 1838, is the only official governor's mansion outside Springfield.
