Loves Park is located in northern Illinois in Winnebago County and is a northeast suberb of Rockford. It lies along the banks of the Rock River about 10 miles south of the Wisconsin state line. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 18,183, an increase of 2,726 since 1990.

For outdoor enthusiasts, 3,000-acre Rock Cut State Park is located just minutes out of town to the northeast. The town is also noted for its Field of Honor Veterans Memorial consisting of 5 limestone columns and 8 bronze statues of fighting men and women accompanied by 40 American flags and is located just north of City Hall in Peace Park.
