Newton Lake is located in southeastern Illinois in southwestern Jasper County about 20 miles souteast of Effingham and 5 miles southwest of Newton and is the centerpiece of the Newton Lake SFWA.

The 1,775-acre lake was created by an impoundment in 1976 and shortly thereafter was stocked with an assortment of bass. The lake is said to produce some of the largest bass in the state. It currently has an 18" minimum length for harvesting and a 3-fish limit.
