The brainchild of William Wirtz, owner of the NHL Chicago Blackhawks, and Jerry Reinsdorf, majority owner and Team Chairman of the NBA Chicago Bulls, the United Center was completed in 1994. In addition to sporting events, the arena has hosted the 1996 Democratic National Convention, the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament and big-name concerts including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones.
The arena is located east of Interstate 90 and north of Interstate 290 between Damien and Wood and between Madison and Adams just blocks west of the shores of Lake Michigan.
