Washington county is located in southern Illinois and is named for our first President. It was created in 1818 from parts of St. Clair County and spun off Clinton County in 1824 to attain its present boundaries.
The county seat is Nashville and the county population on July 1, 1999, was 15,200, an increase of 235 over the 1990 census. Nashville is noted for its "Miniature Chapel" which measures only 8 by 12 feet. Though small, it has been used for weddings by tourists from all 50 states and 20 countries.
Visit Okawville to experience the "Little Hot Springs of Illinois"--a mineral spring and spa complete with hotel-style accomodations.
