Will county is located in northeastern Illinois southwest of Chicago and Cook County. It was formed in 1836 and is named for Dr. Conrad Will, a member of the first Constitutional Convention and a member of the Illinois Legislature. The county's final boundaries were set in 1852 when part of the southern portion was ceded over to Kankakee County.
The area is blessed with three significant waterways--the Des Plaines River, the DuPage River and the Kankakee River.
The county seat is Joliet and the county population on July 1, 1999, was 478,392, an increase of 121,079 over the 1990 census.
University of St. Francis and Joliet Junior College, among other educational opportunities, are located here.
