Woodford county is located in central Illinois on the Illinois River just ENE of Peoria and was established in 1841. It is named after the birthplace of an area pioneer--Thomas Bullock of Woodford county, Kentucky.
The county seat is Eureka and is home to Eureka College. The College's most notable alumnus is former President Ronald Reagan. He helped establish the "Peace Garden" at the College as well as the Ronald Reagan Trail reaching from Eureka to Dixon and Tampico (in Whiteside County), Mr. Reagan's birthplace.
The county population on July 1, 1999, was 35,553, an increase of 2,900 over the 1990 census.
