Mounds State Park, located off I-69 east of Anderson, features 10 distinct 'earthworks' built by a group of pre-historic Indians known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the 'Great Mound', is believed to have been constructed around 160 BC. Archaeological surveys seem to indicate it was used as a gathering place for religious ceremonies.
The nature center is located in the Bronnenberg House, which is considered to be one of the oldest buildings constructed as a dwelling in Madison County.
