Letterkenny is situated in County Donegal at the head of the river Swilly where it flows into Lough Swilly, the deepest sea estuary in Europe. It is the largest industrial and commercial centre in Donegal, with a population around 15,000. Most of its buildings are relatively new, with the cathedral, built 1890-1901, one of the oldest.
