Located in south central Kansas 25 miles west of Wichita, the 9,500 acre Cheney Reservoir is known as one of the best sailing lakes in the US. National Championships and sailing regattas have been held on the lake.

In addition to sailing and sailboarding, the park's 2,000 acres include 185 electric hookup sites with water, 425 primitive campsites, 24 boat launching lanes, six modern pit toilets, nine restrooms with showers, a shelter house with restrooms, a marina, and four trailer dump stations. Popular activities include boating, fishing, 4 swim beaches, two interpertive nature trails, and wildlife viewing. The nearby wildlife area provide 5,250 acres of natural area for hunting and wildlife viewing. A waterfowl refuge provides opportunities to view ducks and geese.
