Located in the East Region of the state, in Leavenworth County and 5 mi. south of the city of Leavenworth along Highway 7. Lansing is also near Kansas City. Lansing is part of the Kansas City, Missouri-Kansas metro area.

The state penitentiary was located in Lansing in 1863 and the town grew around it. With the opening of the coal mine at the prison the town became an important shipping point for coal.

Despite the size of it's population, being 5 miles from Kansas City affords residants and visitors to Lansing the full range of employment opportunities, goods and services of the larger community, while preserving the small town identity.

LANSING DAZE is an annual event held every June. Activities include a crafts faire, golf tournament, Kiwanis and Lyons Club activities.

Heart of America Shakespeare Festival Kansas City MO June18-July7 The Heart of America Shakespeare Festival is set under the stars in South Moreland Park near Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. It is a perfect way to spend a summer evening with family and friends. They have several programs to study and explore such as Speaker's Bureau and Poster and Sonnet Contest. The faculty includes theatre professionals, actors, and educators experienced in performing and teaching Shakespeare. Many of the instructors are veterans of festival productions.
