For generations, a blend of history and legend has drawn visitors to this meeting place of incredible natural beauty and unique history. Located in the picturesque historic town of St Martinville, Longfellow-Evangeline became the first park in the Louisiana State Park System in 1934. Maison Olivier, the plantation home on the site, built circa 1815, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Situated on the banks of Bayou Teche, Longfellow-Evangeline interprets the history of the French speaking peoples of Louisiana. Maison Olivier is an example of a Creole cottage, which shows a Mixture of Creole and Caribbean influences.
