Vianden Castle

Search Visit

Vianden Castle is one of Luxembourgs most spectacular, often featured on postcards and promotional materials for the Grand Duchy itself. Built by the counts of Vianden, it was demolished in 1827, but restored to its 18th century appearance after it was bequeathed to the state in 1977. A Carolingian fortress existed on the site as early as the ninth century, but most of the development took place during the 12-14th centuries. The castle rises atop a hill, and features picturesque views of the town of Vianden.
