Worcester is located in Worcester County along Interstate 290, 42 miles west of Boston. It is situated in what is called the Heart of the Commonwealth. Incorporated in 1722, Worcester is the third largest city in New England and home of several colleges dating to the last century. The city is part of the Worcester, Massachusetts-Connecticut metro area. In addition, the surrounding area includes three distinctly New England regions: the Blackstone Valley with its history of America's Industrial Revolution, the Johnny Appleseed Trail with antique villages and rural beauty, and the living history attraction of Sturbridge & the Brookfields, featuring architecture from the Colonial, Federal and Victorian periods.
