This park takes in 544 acres on the banks of the Patuxent River, and includes some 70 archaeological sites; a state history and archaeology museum interprets 12,000 years of Chesapeake Bay history. The Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab), is a state-of-the-art archaeological research, conservation, and collections storage facility for over 4.5 million state archaeological artifacts; monthly tours are offered.

A variety of public education and special events programs are offered by the museum; the Visitor Center contains exhibits, and a hands-on children's Discovery Room. Three self-guided trails lead visitors through a hardwood forest to dig sites along the river where 17th-century life is interpreted.

Open Wednesday-Sunday, mid-April through mid-October; admission is free.
