Deer Isle - Chase Emerson Library, serving an area of 1,890 residents, has a collection of 12,600 books and periodicals; in addition, there are 189 CDs, records, cassettes and other audio materials, as well as 25 video items, such as DVDs and VHS tapes. Staffing consists of one employee, plus volunteers. Annual expenditures on the library collection total $3,300. Patrons make 5,000 visits annually, and check out materials 7,800 times. Thirty-six percent of all check-outs are children's materials.
