Coopersville is in Ottawa County, and in the West-Southwest Region (part of the Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland, Michigan metro area). Coopersville is located west of Walker on I-96.

Coopersville was named for Benjamin F. Cooper, from Utica, New York, who settled here in 1845.

Cooperville functions, for the most part, as a commuter city to both the larger Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland, Michigan Metropolitan areas. It also has a versatile local economic base on the rise with many small businesses and manufacturing facilities availble.
