Search Escanaba Michigan

Escanaba is in Delta County (of which it is the county seat), and in the Northern Region. This community is located east of Iron Mountain between Menominee and Rapid River along US Highway 2 on the banks of the Escanaba River near Little Bay De Noc and Lake Michigan. Also located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula region.

This town comes from the Chippewa word "Escanowba," meaning "flat rock", the name refers to the flat bed of rock in the "rushing Escanowba" River.

Escanaba's economic support is produced from iron ore shipping, taconite stockpiling, paper products manufacturing, wood products, packaging materials and engine re-building. Tourism, especially in the area of fishing and water sports, is also a large factor.
