Grosse Pointe is in Wayne County, and in the Southeast Region (part of the Detroit, Michigan metropolitan area). This community is located on Lake Shore Dr. overlooking Lake St. Clair. See Lake Erie, and situated off of I-94.
The settlement of Grosse Pointe was incorporated as a village in 1880. Grocer Matthias Lodewyk became its first postmaster, with the office named Cottage Grove, on May 28, 1888. While becoming divided on the liquor issue in 1893, the northern section became Grosse Pointe Farms. Grosse Pointe was re-incorporated as a village in 1893, and incorporated as a city in 1934.
