Search Oscoda Michigan

Oscoda is in Iosco County, and in the Northern Region. This community is located south of Alpena between Harrisville and Tawas City along US Highway 23 on the banks of the Au Sable River near Van Ettart Lake and the Foote Dam. Situated on the shore of Lake Huron.

Oscoda was first settled in the late 1860s when Edward Smith of the company of Smith, Kelly & Dwight bought land here. Situated at the mouth of the Au Sable River, Oscoda played a major role in the lumber era as a key distribution point for shipping lumber on the Great Lakes.

Today, Oscoda is mainly supported through the presence of tourism. A popular attraction includes the Au Sable River Run in the spring, which ends in town at the finish line, while starting in Grayling. It also has a beautiful sandy beach for swimming. And it is a great place for lodging, being so close to the many recreational activities in the Iosco County area.
