St. Ignace is in Mackinac County, and in the Northern Region. This community is located south of Sault Ste Marie between Salt Ste Marie and Mackinaw City along Interstate 75 near St Martin Bay and Mackinac Island. The county seat is situated on the shore of Lake Huron.

St Ignace is the third oldest city in the United States. St. Ignace was founded by Father Maquette in 1671, and named for St. Ignatius of Loyola.
