Wixom is located in Oakland County, on Pontiac Trl. Road just northwest of Novi, and situated close to I-96.
Wixom is part of the Detroit, Michigan metro area.
This area was first settled in 1831 by 3 men: Lewis Norton, Alonzo Sibley, and Ahijah Wixom. It was first called Sibleys corners. In 1871, the area was officially platted by Willard Wixom, Ahijahs son. It incorporated as a village in 1957 and into a city a year later.
Today, Wixom has developed as a major suburban area as well as a site for manufacturing, including the large Ford production plant which can be seen from I-96 to the north. The town's modern city hall complex includes a community center, library and playground.
