The Depot Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is housed in the historic 1916 Northern Pacific Depot building, and recognized as a significant local landmark. Built in 1916, the depot features Mission Revival architecture, complete with a scalloped red tile roof. Demand for a larger depot to handle the passenger traffic eventually forced Northern Pacific to replace the older and smaller building that was built in the late 1800s; the present structure was in use until the 1960s, when passenger service was finally discontinued. The Aitkin County Historical Society acquired the depot to serve as their new headquarters and museum in 1972. A rotating schedule of exhibits and unique artifacts are on display in the exhibit halls; a museum store offers gifts and publications pertaining to area history. Special tours may be arranged through the Historical Society.
