To get to the trail, take Highway 101 in Shakopee West past County Road 18; turn right at the wildlife refuge sign. The trail proceeds north out of the parking lot, then turns east by the river, continuing to County Road 18. The intermediate-level trail is mostly doubletrack, with dense vegetation along the trail. The Western loop of the trail is closed March 1-August 31.
