Founded in 1877, this is a public institution with an emphasis on liberal arts, business, music and teacher preparation. There are 5 undergraduate and 1 graduate schools. The 150 acre campus is located in an urban area 190 miles north of New Orleans. Including residence halls there are 39 buildings.

Fraternities, sororities and over 20 clubs and organizations are on campus. Tours of the campus are available.
