TThis exquisite lodge was constructed in 1991 with massive logs harvested near Yellowstone Park after the forest fires of 1988. Each of its eight guest rooms is appointed with comfortable beds, antique furnishings, plush carpeting, a private bathroom, and a door that opens onto the forest.
Bear Creek Lodge defines the word retreat. The steel gray, snow-mottled peaks of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness can be accessed by just a short walk from the lodge. Guests can take day hikes into the mountains along boulder-strewn Bear Creek, which cascades through the canyon. White-tailed deer and elk graze the mountain meadows, moose wade through small ponds, cougar and black bear occasionally prowl the area, and woodpeckers tap away for insects.
Ccrystalline Bear Creek tumbles by the lodge as trout rise up to the surface to sip pale mourning duns and caddis.
