Albemarle

Albemarle is located in Stanly County (of which it is the county seat) northeast of Charlotte between Wadesboro and Salisbury along US Highway 52 near Mount Pleasant, Mount Gilead, Badin Lake, Morrow Mountain State Park, and the Uwharrie National Forest. It is named for George Monck, the Duke of Albemarle, who was one of the eight Lords Proprietors granted the province of Carolina in 1663 by King Charles II.
