Boiling Springs is located in Cleveland County within the Heartland Region, between Forest City and Gastonia on Highway 150 near Shelby. The town was named from an underground spring located now on the campus of Gardner-Webb University. The spring measurers 4 or 5 feet across and bubbled up to eight inches above the surface, the spring was an attraction where folks from miles around came to drink its waters.
