The state historic site includes a tobacco museum. The 1852 main house, two early tobacco factories, a packhouse and curing barn reflect the historical impact of the tobacco industry on North Carolina. The museum includes a moving mannequin who plants tobacco and explains the '13 month crop.' The visitor center offers a museum and a movie about the history of tobacco. Special events and living-history weekends are held throughout the year. Open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 1-5pm, April-October; Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1-4pm, the rest of the year. Free to the public.
