Linville Caverns

Search Marion North Carolina

Deep beneath Humpback Mountain, slowly moving ground water has dissolved out an incredible series of rooms and passages, and created spectacular formations in the limestone rock. The cavern was discovered in the 1800's by men intrigued by the mystery of fish swimming out of the mountain. You may encounter an Eastern Pipistrelle bat hanging asleep from the ceiling or view a "grand-daddy long legs" in hibernation; stroll beside an underground stream that is home to native trout, many of which are blind from swimming their lifetime in darkness; Peer into the seemingly endless depths of a bottomless pool; Enjoy the constant 52 degree temperature as you peruse the inner recesses of the mountain. Guided tours through the caverns leave every few minutes, and last about half an hour. They do allow photography, so bring your camera!
