Coast Region

North Carolina's Coast Region abounds with history. Blackbeard once landed here, and pre-Revolutionary America is evident in such places as Bath, Edenton, and New Bern. The region also boasts the site of the Wright Brothers' famous first flight near Kitty Hawk, and in Wilmington, the Battleship North Carolina provides a self-guided tour of WW II-era military life at sea. In addition, there are numerous museums here containing glimpses of 18th and 19th century history, including a 13-star American Flag.

A major attraction of the area is the coastline itself, where ocean beaches and the islands that form the Outer Banks offer many activities and attractions within an environment of sun, sand and water.
