Lake Sakakawea

Lake Sakakawea is the Corps of Engineers' largest lake in North Dakota and was created by damming the Missouri River at Pick City. Major benefits created by the impoundment continue to be flood control, hydroelectric power, navigation and irrigation.

The lake, third largest man-made reservoir nationwide, covers 368,000 acres and is nearly 180 miles long. It has given rise to several major recreation areas including Lake Sakakawea State Park, Ft. Stevenson State Park, Lewis and Clark State Park and the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge.
