The largest state forest in North Dakota is Turtle Mountain.It is located 5 miles west of Lake Metigoshe, and surrounds the campground at Strawberry Lake. The forest covers 7,704 acres and is comprixed of aspen, oak, birch, elm, willow and poplar trees.

Wildlife abounds here, including moose, deer and grouse. There are trails for horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Other activities here include hunting, fishing, swimming and canoeing.
