Search Crete Nebraska

Crete is located on Hwy 33 in Saline County, southwest of Lincoln between Wilber and Milford on the banks of the Blue River near Blue Stem State Recreation Area and Blue River State Recreation Area.

The first settler to locate at the eventual site of Crete was J.C. Bickle who staked off his place in the summer of 1863. In August 1870, Bickle platted land and called it "Blue River City". The sale of lots commenced. Bickle operated the first post office in his home and since Mrs. Bickle was from Crete, Illinois, the post office was registered as "Crete".

Today, this picturesque community is full of State and city parks, with campgrounds surrounding the immediate area as well.
