Geneva is located in Fillmore County (of which it is the county seat), between Clay Center and Wilber at the junction of Hwy 41 and US Hwy 81. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,213, a decrease of 97 since 1990.

Geneva's roots go back to 1871 when the first post office was established.

The present courthouse, built in 1893 and listed on the National Register of Historical Places, is located in the center of Geneva covering a two block area.
