Genoa is located in Nance County. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,022, a decrease of 60 since 1990.

Genoa, named by the Mormon Pioneers, was among several temporary settlements established by the Church of the Latter Day Saints in 1857. In the fall of 1859, the Mormon Colony was forced to abandon Genoa when the settlement became part of the newly created Pawnee Indian Reservation.

Today, Genoa has a beautiful park and pool for recreation. There is also overnight camping available. Genoa is considered a bedroom community with affordable housing.

The Genoa Historical Museum is located on Main Street and displays the Allen B. Atkins Pawnee Indian Artifact Collection. The Indian School Museum is also a popular attraction in Genoa.
