Seward is located in Seward County (and is the county seat) northwest of Lincoln, between Utica and Garland, off US Hwy 34.

Some popular attractions in the Seward area include: County Courthouse, (with its golden dome and musical chimes, was built in 1905-06 on the original "market square"), Concordia University, Seward Civic Center, World's Largest Time Capsule and "Marysville" Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Seward, known as America's Small Town 4th of July City, hosts the state of Nebraska in an old-fashioned family celebration each July 4. The observance is unique in that major leadership is provided by high school youths. This event adds new attractions each year and draws upward of 40,000 people. It has been televised nationally on numerous occasions.
