Sidney is located in Cheyenne County (of which it is the county seat), just north of the Colorado state line in west Nebraska between Chappell and Kimball along Hwy 30 near the Lodgepole River.

The town was named for Sidney Dillon who was then the president of the Union Pacific. 1867 was the year in which Sidney was first laid out.

With a rich mix of modern growth, Sidney offers a lot to see and enjoy. Experience the life of the 1867 soldier while you visit the Fort Sidney Museum and Post Commanders Home, or take a stroll through Sidney's Historic Downtown District.

Sidney has diverse collection of shops in the downtown district and don't forget Cabela's the World's Foremost Outfitter and the shops nearby.
