Home of America's first aerial passenger tramway

Search Franconia New Hampshire

Cannon Mountain, located in Grafton County, has one of only two state-owned ski areas in New Hampshire (and the other is Mt. Sunapee located in the Lakes Region).

Take a ride on America's first aerial passenger tramway, Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, that was first erected in 1938. The first Aerial Tram held a mere 24 skiers in its wooden cabins. The tram was replaced in 1980 by a brand-new 70-passenger Italian model, which carts skiers 5000 linear feet up to the summit, 2146 vertical feet, in roughly 5 minutes.

Visitors will desire to review the articles in the free New England Ski Museum, which is located immediately adjacent to the tram's base and has one of the original cabins stationed outside. Echo Lake Beach is open daily for swimming and boating (canoe & paddleboats rentals available). Their bike shop offers bike rentals and repairs. Come and enjoy summer or winter at Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch State Park.
