The city of Alpine is located in Bergen County,which is part of the Gateway Region. It is a small town on the Palisades at the Jersey shore of the Hudson River. It is only a few miles from Demarest, Cresskill, Closter, and Tenafly.

Alpine is named after the Alps Mountains in Europe, and is ranked 29th in Worth magazine's list of the 250 Richest Towns. Two well-known residents of Alpine are John Ringling, owner of Ringling Brothers Circus, and Eddie Murphy, a well-known actor and comedian.

When the weather cooperates take a trip to either of the local golf courses. Montammy Golf Club offers large fairways and fast greens, with water on four of the holes. The other course, Tamcrest Country Club, is built on very hilly terrain and has different speed greens, with water on only two of the holes.

Alpine Picnic Area offers a scenic riverfront picnic area and boat basin. It has access to many trails, boat launches, a pavilion perfect for parties, and is home to the historic Kearney House. The Women's Federation Monument is also located in Alpine. It is a cliff-top overlook and hold a monument to the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs.

An interesting nearby site for visitors is the Greenbrook Sanctuary.
