The Borough of Hopatcong is in northwestern New Jersey, located in Sussex County,in the Skylands Region. It is situated on the western and northern shores of Lake Hopatcong, the largest lake in New Jersey. Originally called the "Borough of Brooklyn", Hopatcong split from Byram in 1898 and changed its name to the Borough of Hopatcong in 1901. Nearby are Stanhope and Lake Mohawk.
