Glorieta is part of the Santa Fe, New Mexico metro area.
Glorieta had its beginning a few years after the Civil War. During March of 1862 as the Confederates attempted to occupy New Mexico, a heated engagement between Confederate and Union troops occured at a position named Pigeon's Ranch near La Glorieta Pass. The battle ended with a Union victory, this ended the threat to New Mexico by the Confederates.
Today, Glorieta still has many of its original buildings, while having a semi-ghost town feel to it. Remaining in Glorieta is a small mercantile store, a restaurant, a gift shop and a sprinkling of homes.
