Lockport is located in Niagara County 20 miles NE of Niagara Falls along Highway 31/78 near Lake Ontario in the Western Regionof the state. Lockport derived its name from the locks that overcome the difference in elevation along the Niagara Escarpment. The "Old 5" Locks built in 1840 can be seen from an observation point on Pine Street Bridge or from the boats that offer narrated cruises along the canal. The town also boasts one of the widest bridges in the world, located downtown within walking distance from the locks. The Canal Museum displays canal construction photographs and other canal memorabilia. Lockport is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New Yorkmetro area.
