Milton Clark Avery is knows as a great colorist focused on serene mood, harmony, and rounded shapes. He is considered one of the most sophisticated 20th- century artists, and although never associated with a particular movement, influenced succeeding generations of artists including Color Field painters Mark Rothko and Adolph Gottlieb.
