Mount Morris is located in Livingston County and is part of the Rochester, New York metropolitan area in the Western Region of the state.

Mount Morris was named after Robert Morris, financier of the Revolution. The surrounding Genesee River valley was long plagued by floods. A dam across the river was built here in 1827 and washed out six years later. The current dam, one of the largest east of the Mississippi, was completed in 1952.
