Jackson is located in southeastern Ohio in central Jackson County (of which it is the county seat) about 60 miles southeast of Columbus. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,999, a decrease of 168 since 1990.
The town is ideally situated if outdoor recreation is your main focus. Wayne National Forest surrounds Jackson and different parts are within minutes in any direction. In addition, Hammertown Lake is a stone's throw away to the west and Jackson Lake is less than 10 miles south-southeast of town.
Franklin Valley Golf Club is a semi-private, 18-hole facility with an open guest policy and invites visitors as well as local golfers to enjoy a leisurely round with them.
One of the local attractions appeals to both children and adults alike--Noah's Ark Animal Farm.
