McConnelsville is located in southeastern Ohio in Morgan County and servres as the county seat. It is about 60 miles east-southeast of Columbus and 20 miles south-southeast of Zanesville on the banks of the Muskingum River.
Of interest to historians is the Morgan County Court House which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the state. The Greek Classic structure was erected in 1858 at a cost of $10,000. The Howard House on East Main St. is a refurbished antebellum mansion and is now a restaurant. The Opera House is the only one, of Ohio's few, with its auditorium on the ground floor and was first building in Morgan County lighted by electricity.
