Located on North Main Street, this is an imposing Classical Greek structure constructed of Georgian marble dating back to 1915-17.
William McKinley was born in Niles on January 29, 1843, and served as the 25th President of the United States from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. The monument itself measures about 230 feet by 135 feet and is nearly 40 feet tall. A statue of McKinley is centered and is surrounded by bronze busts of his "Court of Honor"--those that served in his Cabinet and close advisers including a young Theodore Roosevelt.
The museum contains McKinley memorabilia, Civil War and Spanish American War artifacts and bronze busts. The ornate ceilings scrollwork, walnut woodwork and marble columns are of interest. The auditorium and public library also are open to the public.
Open Monday through Thursday 9am-8pm, Friday and Saturday 9am-5:30pm, Sunday 1pm-5pm in September through May. Hours vary the rest of the year.
