Elk City is located in western Oklahoma in Beckham County along Highway 34 just north of Interstate 40, on historic Route 66. It is the home of the National Route 66 Museum which greets visitors with a vintage oil drum kachina. The museum provides highlights from all eight states the Route passes through.

In addition, Elk City presents the Anadarko Basin Museum of Natural History which is next door to one of the world's tallest oil drilling rigs--Parker's #114. Another local attraction is the Old Town Museum Complex dispalying artifacts from the town's history.

The town is the proud host of the annual PRCA Rodeo of Champions held over Labor Day Weekend.
