Fort Towson, the town, is located in southeast Oklahoma in Choctaw County just inside the Texas/Oklahoma border west of Broken Bow along U.S. Highway 70 east of Hugo Lake and on the northern edge of Raymond Gary State Park. The town takes its name from the neighboring 19th-century military stronghold where Cherokee .
